Olympus R1000 Rugged Fully Featured PDA

Olympus today unveiled their first Tough Digital Assistant (TDA) with the R1000 series handheld. Almost every commercially used rugged handheld that can withstand a normal drop is over sized and costly, the Olympus R1000 is sleek, durable and affordable (starting at $899 USD).

The R1000 series is designed to IP54 specifications on dust and water splash resistance, it has a longer battery life and the ability to store data permanently via the built-in NandFlash memory. At only 180g (including battery) in weight, measured at 5.2 x 3.0 x 0.6 inch in dimension and configurable to either Win CE.Net 4.2 or Embedded Linux Operating System, the R1000 series is tough enough to withstand even a 4 feet drop to concrete. In terms of connectivity, it encompasses a built-in Bluetooth version as well as an on-board integrated Bluetooth and WLAN 802.11b model.

It’s capable of sending out 90db of sound between the 40Hz – 20KHz range, and creating a dynamic subwoofer out of nearly any flat surface imaginable. It has an internal battery with an estimated 20 hours of playtime per charge.
